Q: I'm moving into the area soon and I'm wondering if there is any good local restaurants to look out for. I realisze if I head into the downtown area there is a lot of great places to eat but is there anything worth going to without crossing the river?

A: Hi, it depends on the type of food you like. We live North of the River near Gladstone. There's a great place called Cafe Italia on Barry and Oak. It's not a chain. We've also eatin at this place called Strouds located just of I-35. Stroud's is a good down home eating place with good fried chicken. There are only 2 of these in the kansas city area. In North Kansas City on Armour road there is First watch which is only open for breakfast and lunch, Kelso's which is a bar with good pizza and Chappel's which is a neat sports bar. With the exception of First Watch, the other restaurants I mention in NKC are smoking. Kansas City restaurants are Non Smoking. Good luck.
